If you are one of those that don’t get time to have dinner with your family, you need to take steps to change your lifestyle. In a recent study conducted by National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University found that families that eat together have a lower risk of substance abuse. Also, children who eat with their family are likely to get better grades.
Many people believe that when parents have meals with their family they bring a structure and routine to the life of their children. Children who have meals with their parents feel safer and secure when compared to children that don’t have meal with their children. Having family dinner helps in reducing the risk of substance abuse in children and helps in cultivating good eating habits in children. By having meals with their children, parents can ensure their children eat healthy food. Family mealtime is also a good opportunity to introduce children to new foods that taste good and are good for their health.
Parents must make it a point to plan their meals to ensure their children can eat with them. If is a good idea to stock items like frozen vegetables, beans, meat and whole grain pasta in your home. You can cook these items on the weekends and use them later in the week.
